Minecraft is one of the most recognizable and longest-running sandbox games ever created. With over 600 million Minecraft players and billions of randomly generated maps, players have access to an infinite world. Unless players have a few Potions of Water Breathing, exploring under the oceans can be extremely difficult.

Minecraft – Water Breathing Potions
Several variations of Potion of Water Breathing exist, but they all allow players to breathe underwater. This will allow Minecraft players to mine underwater, destroy underwater monuments, and fight sea critters. Potions are difficult to make in Minecraft, however. Getting the right result from the Potion of Water Breathing requires following the recipe carefully.
What Ingredients Are Required to make Water Breathing potions:
You will need a variety of crafting stations and materials before making some of these Water Breathing potions. In order to get a Crafting Table, players will most likely have no problem acquiring one. The Table can be crafted at any time with 4 Wood Planks, and it can be used for almost anything in Minecraft.
Players will also need:
- 2 Blaze Rod
- 3 Cobblestones
- 1 Water Bottle
- 1 Nether Wart
- 1 Puffer Fish
- 1 Redstone (optional)
Then craft a Brewing Station with one Blaze Rod and three Cobblestones. Players can also steal Brewing Stations from Minecraft villages and villagers if they do not want to make one themselves. Igloos with basements also have Brewing Stations, so players spawning in snowy plains should keep their eyes peeled for one.
From the Nether, one can obtain flame rods by finding Nether fortresses. The nearest one is usually between 100 and 200 blocks from the Nether spawn point. Blaze rods can be obtained by killing Blaze spawners and killing Blazes. You’ll also find Nether Wart in these Nether fortresses, so be sure to look for the red mushroom-like plants growing on soul sand as you explore.
How to Make Water Breathing Potion in Minecraft
The player will need to put the potion together once they have the ingredients and the Brewing Station ready to go. First, make Blaze Powder using the remaining Blaze Rods. To get to the Brewing Station, follow these directions in this order:
- Open the Brewing Station menu in Minecraft.
- Fill the left-hand box with Blaze Powder. The Brewing Station will be activated and everything will be bubbling.
- Put a water bottle in one of the three slots at the bottom of the Brewing Station Menu (players can brew multiple potions if they fill all three slots with water bottles).
- After adding the Nether Wart to the top box, wait for brewing to complete. Players will now possess an awkward potion.
- Wait for the brewing process to be completed before adding the Puffer Fish to the top box. As a result, the Awkward Potion is now Water Breathing.
- Add a Redstone at this point to get a longer-lasting Potion of Water Breathing.
The players will now be able to swim freely without worrying about drowning or needing to breathe at the surface. Players can use the Potion to discover what lies underneath the sea, like underwater temples, underwater mining, and even build an underwater city if they get bored.
The duration will be extended by adding Redstone dust. The effect lasts for 3 minutes without Redstone dust, and for 8 minutes with Redstone dust added. Due to how cheap and easy it is to get Redstone dust, players should always extend the duration of their potions when they can.
