Losing your keys is one of the worst experiences you can have on the road. When you reach down your pocket or bag and realize you have left your keys at the gas station or in the trunk it can feel like a nightmare come true.

A locksmith can help get your car back on the road for a fair price. The cost will depend on the year, make and model of your vehicle.
Transponder Keys

Transponder keys are a great extra layer of security to keep your car safe from thieves. They contain a microchip embedded inside that sends a signal to the car’s immobilizer when inserted into or near the ignition. Then, if the key is authenticated by the car, it will disable the immobilizer system and allow you to start your vehicle.

These microchips are encrypted and unique to each vehicle, making them very difficult to duplicate. Only a handful of locksmiths have the special license and equipment required to clone these chips.

If you have a transponder key, make sure to always have a spare in case one is lost or stolen. Also, only a trusted locksmith should clone your keys so you can be confident that the replacement is valid and will work properly with your car.
High Security Keys

When your car keys are lost, misplaced or broken it is always a frustrating experience. Especially when you are in a hurry and need to make it to an appointment, drive kids to school or go to work.

High security keys are very difficult to duplicate and can help you limit who has access to your vehicle. They have unique indentations that only a key cutter with authorization from the manufacturer can replicate. In addition, they are much more resistant to picking and bumping.

When you lose your car keys or lock them inside, the first thing you should do is call a locksmith. They will have all the tools and equipment needed to replace your key. They will usually ask for the year, model and VIN of your vehicle to determine what type of key you need. They will also need proof that you own the vehicle such as a registration or title to ensure you are getting the right key for your specific car.
Keyless Entry

Most people don’t realize it, but a keyless entry system eliminates the need for traditional keys. This means less time worrying about losing your key or having it stolen. It also simplifies the process of granting access to a friend, family member, or contractor. Rather than having to hide a spare key or run out to get it copied, you simply give them the code and let them in.

Unlike traditional keys, which require insertion, most keyless car keys relay radio signals that the vehicle recognizes. This means they’re safer at night and easier to use in frigid weather, when the key may not fit in the lock.

To install a keyless entry system, follow the manual’s instructions. Locate the necessary wires, including the main power line (which is usually coated in red). Strip a small portion of the exposed wire and make connections as directed. Once complete, wrap any unused wires with black electrical tape.locksmith car key replacement
